When Mother was a young girl, Santa Claus brought the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve and came back to take it away on New Year's Eve. She hung her stocking and Santa Claus filled it every year.
One year she told Pop and Grandma that she knew that Santa wasn't real. She said she would prove it by hanging her stocking by her bed. Her bed had a metal pipe type of headboard. She hung the stocking on the wall in a place where Santa had to reach between the pipes of the headboard to fill her stocking.
Secure in her belief that she'd catch Pop and Grandma filling her stocking, she fell to sleep.
When she woke up on Christmas day, her stocking was full. She was convinced.
Mother said it was years later when she finally learned ....
